We live in exciting times. Fast times, stressful times and, if we’re like most, fearful times. Things are moving along at a rapid pace and it feels remarkably easy to be left in the dust. We have been trained our entire lives to survive and as many of us are finding out, this way of being takes a large toll. Exhaustion, depression, pain and auto-immune disorders seem a high price to pay. What happens when we just can’t keep up anymore? Other than getting sick and tired?
How about this? We make a different choice. It’s that simple. We choose to let go of the stress and in the long run, to be happy. It is a choice that is born of the understanding that our current survival mentality and the stress that accompanies it is no longer sustainable. And the result is the wonderful and somewhat foreign state we know of as thriving.
The question is, if this were so simple wouldn’t everyone be doing it already? Unfortunately simple doesn’t always mean easy. We are so deeply conditioned to survive that making the decision to change our tune can be difficult if not impossible. We actually have parts of our brain that are specifically programmed to stop us every time we venture outside of our respective comfort zone. Not surprisingly one is called the reptilian brain, forcing us into conditioned behaviors that we share with none other than our scaly cousins.
